About Kala Data
Kala Data is a technology company that deploys modular high-performance computing infrastructure directly at energy assets. We run an AI cloud for builders and unlock new revenue for energy producers — one platform, two businesses, operating at the edge of the grid.
Why Kala exists
We started Kala Data because we saw two problems pointing straight at one another.
On one side, the demand for computing power was exploding — AI and high-performance workloads needing more energy than the grid could comfortably give them, and racing ahead of where data centres could be built.
On the other, vast amounts of energy were going to waste. Stranded gas with no route to market. Renewables curtailed because the grid couldn't absorb them. Power generated in the wrong place, at the wrong time, or with no one to buy it.
One problem was starved of energy. The other was drowning in it. The obvious thing was to connect them — so we built the platform to do it: modular, immersion-cooled compute that deploys directly onto energy assets and turns otherwise-wasted power into useful work. Energy producers earn from capacity they couldn't otherwise sell; compute customers get abundant, low-cost capacity the traditional market can't offer.
That was the start, not the end. As we worked with customers, a second need became clear: not every workload wants to live at a remote energy site. Inference that has to sit close to users, production services that demand the lowest latency — these belong in the city.
So we extended the platform. The same software that runs our modular sites now also orchestrates compute in metropolitan data centres, giving customers a single platform that places each workload where it makes most sense — heavy training where power is cheapest, latency-sensitive work close to where it's used.
The throughline hasn't changed: put computing power where energy and demand meet, and waste as little as possible of either. Every unit we deploy, every site we bring online, and every line of software we write serves that one idea — turning energy into intelligence.
